Adulting. The things we do as evidence of being grown — going to work, paying the bills, doing the laundry & cooking the meals all while taking care of family & maintaining relationships with other grown folks. It’s the things we do as we quietly put away our childish selves. We learn to let go of things no longer worth our time – unnecessary drama, foolish talk, sluggish behavior & disorganized clutter. We learn to love schedules, collect cookbooks and work on our savings. All the while we still maintain our style. We don’t loose the swagger that first expressed itself during our adolescence and blossomed as we age.
This playlist is a jazzy, soulful expression of that style. It has a mix of down-to-earth songs about love & life, good food, fun times & hard work. The playlist begins with few upbeat tunes from Gregory Porter & Jill Scott and finishes with mellow ballads from King and Corrine Bailey Rae. Sprinkled in are a few songs from Afropop artists like Juls and Bemyoda. Feel free to listen to the list here and let me know what you think.
